In 1965 the EuroBasket was held in Russia, where the locals continued their tyranny in this competition, winning their fifth consecutive European Championship. Yugoslavia tried to compete but in the end was clearly defeated in the final (58-49)
The 1965 NBA was the seventh title for the Boston Celtics. In the grand final, they had no trouble defeating the Los Angeles Lakers, where the Greens won the first two games, and after a hiatus from a loss in Los Angeles, they finished the job on a fast track (4-1)
The competition starts with 25 teams, which will have to pass two previous rounds in a roundtrip format, after which there will be 8 survivors who will play the quarterfinals. CSKA Moscow was exempted from playing them
