In 1939, before the outbreak of World War II, the EuroBasket was held in Lithuania. An event for a country that loves basketball, and which took the opportunity to repeat the Gold. The silver went to Latvia, and the bronze to Poland
In 1937, the EuroBasket was held in Latvia, where Lithuania won the championship. Lithuania would be the two European champions before merging with the Soviet Union. The Lithuanians won the final with very few goals and only one point against Italy (24-23)
The International Olympic Committee introduced basketball into its official program at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. There had been a precedent, in the 1904 St. Louis Games, but it was held as a demonstration, without results and with five American teams in two days, so basketball landed in the Olympics this year. The first Olympic podium in history went to the United States (gold), Canada (silver), and Mexico (bronze)
In 1935 FIBA organized its first competition in Switzerland, probably as a prelude to the Olympic Games the following year. The first champion in the history of the EuroBasket was Latvia, which beat Spain in the final. The Bronze went to Czechoslovakia
