In 1949, the EuroBasket was held in Egypt, and the locals took advantage of the occasion to hold a perfect competition and win Gold. It was the first and only time that an African team had won a European Championship
In a EuroBasket without the Soviet Union, without Yugoslavia, … it was a competition that allowed other teams to opt for medals. In the end Egypt finished unbeaten (6-0) and the Gold went to them, France (5-1) silver, and Greece (4-2) bronze.
There was no final in the form of a group, but Gold was decided when Egypt and France met, with the former winning (57-36) in a match that never had much excitement.
