In 1988, Real Madrid won the Korac, beating Cibona Zagreb in the final. The Whites cemented their final victory by winning clearly in the first leg at home and controlling the situation in the return leg on Croatian soil

Semi-finals
Red Star – Real Madrid
Hapoel Tel Aviv – Cibona Zagreb

Real Madrid achieved an important victory (102-89) in the first match of the Cup final Korać played in a crowded Palacio de Deportes. As in the recent duels between the whites and the Cibona, the attention of the meeting was focused on Dražen Petrović (whose signing for the white team for next season was already a fact) and the psychological effect that his «performance» (both sporting and dramatic) could have on the team madridista, staying at 21 points, far from their usual performances. Real Madrid won the only European title missing from their packed showcases, the Korać Cup, by claiming the thirteen-point return in the first leg. Although La Cibona’s pyrrhic one-point win (94-93) seems to indicate that the Whites had a placid game, the truth is that they struggled more than expected, as the Yugoslavs came out on top by 17 points (77-60). On a personal level, Drzejan Petrović was again the team’s most outstanding player, this time scoring 47 points.
