In 1937, the EuroBasket was held in Latvia, where Lithuania won the championship. Lithuania would be the two European champions before merging with the Soviet Union. The Lithuanians won the final with very few goals and only one point against Italy (24-23)
In the fight for the Bronze France took the metal after beating Poland by another tight (27-24). Earlier in the semi-finals Lithuania beat Poland (31-25), and Italy overcame France (36-32).
